Plantar Fasciopathy

Or what’s more commonly known as Plantar Heel Pain.

Do you suffer from heel pain or pain along the base of your foot that may sometimes refer up into your calf or shin?

Do you have pain first thing in the morning when you place your heel onto the ground or after a prolonged period of sitting?

Have you recently increased your running load or are you standing for long periods of time throughout the day?

You may be suffering from Plantar Fasciopathy - the most common cause of plantar heel pain

The plantar fascia plays an important role in the normal biomechanics of the foot. The fascia itself is important in providing support for the arch and providing shock absorption.

Treatment for Plantar Fasciopathy is often multi-faceted and generally starts with conservative interventions. High load strength training consisting of heel raises with a towel inserted under the toes to further activate the windlass mechanism has been shown to be effective for longstanding cases of plantar fasciopathy. Additionally, stretching of the plantar fascia with a soft ball has also been shown to be useful in the management of plantar fasciopathy. Swipe to see examples of both rehab exercises.
